Embed Flash 2.2

Version 1.0 didn’t allow for users to customize width and height. I tried to figure out how to code it and with my minimal knowledge I actually got pretty darn close… but just couldn’t get it to work. Thanks to ¥åßßå and John for the code to input width and height fields on a per post basis.

Name: BAE Embed Flash 2.2 works with b2evolution 2.x

Changes:
- Input width and height fields on a per post basis.

Description: You can now easily embed .swf files off your server and have them play within your post.

Installation: Unzip or Urar BAE-EmbedFlash.zip. Upload to your plugins folder. In your backoffice, activate the plugin Embed Flash. This is a completely new plugin and does not replace version 1.0, due to the fact that there are new fields. You may need to disable version 1.0.

How it works: When you create a new post, in expert mode, you’ll see a new button called “Flash". Click it to enter the full url to your flash file, then the width and height. When you publish your post, it will play the flash file.

Appearance: You can customize the positioning and/or appearance by editing the videoblock class in your skins style sheet or by editing the plugins code with a different div class.

To upload .swf files via your file manager, you need to add a new file type:
Extension: swf
File type name: flash video file
Mime type: application/x-shockwave-flash swf

Note to the author: IE doesnt recognize my (flash) mp3 player without adding classid="clsid: D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/ swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" to your object definition plugin (at line 58).

I used the minimum code to display the flash file. An error will occur if the user does not have the flash plugin installed. The classid tells the browser where to find the Flash Player for automatic download.

As per the Adobe Flash website, I have added the classid code to the object definition. Version 2.2.

Thanks for the plugin. I'm learning how to write one based on the this codebase.

Nicely done. nice and simple.

Edgar.

p.s. the Captcha section below, is that a plugin too? Nice.

I installed this and when I try to use it in a post and view the blog, it just displays the code along with the rest of the text. What am I doing wrong?

georgiadoodle, what version of b2evo are you using?

I am using the newest, 2.4.2.

I was trying to embed a flash file from another site. I am working on migrating from Wordpress.

You can see the flash file about 5 posts down from the top at http://blog.piperenterprises.com/

I've got it mostly done (see http://blog.piperenterprises.com/b2evo/) but can't get the flash file embedded.

Thanks for any help!:)

Never mind, I figured it out! I didn't have the Text Renderer - Embed Video box checked. Duh!

I had the plugin installed. The "flash" button did show up, and after I clicked it, I also got the prompts windows for entering url, width and height. But after the last prompts window was closed, nothing was showed in the textarea. Is there anything I need to enable?
